Vivid is an annual festival of lights, music and ideas held in the city of Sydney. Vivid involves a number of events, including public talks and music concerts, however Vivid is predominately known for its elaborate light displays held across the city. Vivid 2019, the 11th consecutive edition, is the biggest yet, including a wider range of events and more elaborate and interactive light displays for visitors to enjoy.

The light component of Vivid 2019 is better than ever, spread over more areas of Sydney and including a variety of new and innovative displays. This year light displays can be found at Circular Quay, Darling Harbour, Barangaroo, The Royal Botanic Gardens, Taronga Zoo and Chatswood. One of this year’s highlights includes the ‘Under the Harbour’ light projection at Sydney’s Customs House, a clever use of colour and shapes that really brings one of Sydney’s most historic buildings to life. The Circular Quay/The Rocks area of Sydney acts as the epicentre of the light component of Vivid 2019, containing the largest concentration of displays bookended brilliantly by the Opera House and Harbour Bridge which, as usual, never fail to disappoint. The following map contains the locations of all the light displays at Vivid 2019.

Vivid also places a heavy emphasis on Ideas and Music with over 200 events being held over the three week duration of the festival. The ideas program is diverse, covering a number of areas such as technology, politics and sustainability, whilst the music program covers a wide range of genres that are a fantastic complement to the other components of the Vivid 2019. The following program outlines the different ideas and music events being held at Vivid 2019.

The Vivid light displays run from 6:00pm – 11:00pm each night until June 15th. We recommend visiting early in the evening as the areas around the light displays can get quiet crowded (especially around Circular Quay). Each area of Sydney hosting Vivid events are easily accessible via Sydney Trains rail network. Check out Trip Planner for the best way to get to Vivid from your location.
