The Tranquillity Base Hotel & Casino Tour is a current concert tour by English rock band the Arctic Monkeys. The tour is in support of the band’s latest (2018) album of the same name. After a run of shows in Europe and North America, the band ventured down under for a series of seven shows across some of Australia and New Zealand’s biggest cities. The TTG Team attended the first of two nights at Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena.
The set list consisted of a mix of songs spanning the band’s entire thirteen year discography. Roughly a quarter of the songs played on the night were from the band’s latest album with a good selection of songs from the band’s other five albums mixed in between. Judging by the crowd’s reaction, the band’s older songs still seem to be the most popular, but the set list was varied enough to satisfy long-time fans as well as fans of Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino.

The stage design was simple, but highly effective at capturing the aesthetic of the band’s latest album. The stage’s main feature was a striking, elongated hexagon, which would raise and descend at different times throughout the night. When playing songs from their new album, you could almost picture the band as a 1950s lounge act playing at one of Las Vegas’ classic casinos – which, we can assume, was the kind of effect the band was going for.
Overall, the show would have definitely benefited from being played at a smaller venue. Some the band’s songs, especially the newer ones, seemed to get lost at this larger arena-sized venue. Nevertheless, the TTG Team enjoyed our stay at the Tranquillity Base Hotel & Casino and unlike the first song of the night; we would rate our stay five stars out of five – highly recommended.
The Tranquillity Base Hotel & Casino Tour is set to conclude after one final leg in Latin America. Check out the official Arctic Monkey’s website for tour details and all the latest news on the band.
