How to Visit the Statue of Artigas in Minas

The Statue of Artigas is a monumental equestrian statue of Uruguayan national hero José Gervasio Artigas. The statue was constructed in 1974 atop of what is now known as Cerro Artigas overlooking the town of Minas.

Upon its completion the statue was largest equestrian statue in the world measuring 18 meters in height and 9 meters in length. This record has since been surpassed by the 40-meter-tall statue of Genghis Khan that was constructed in Mongolia in 2008.

Visiting the statue is free. Visitors can drive or walk to the top of the mountain. A small parking lot is located on site.
