The Royal Albert Hotel is pub located in Surry Hills, close to Sydney’s CBD. The pub opened in 1927 and has witnessed the area around it change significantly over its almost 100 year history.
The pub is a lot smaller than other venues in the area with most seats placed at the front bar, rare for pubs in Sydney. The bar also features a lounge area, small beer garden and seating along the front footpath.
The pub was colloquially known as the jam tin for a time due to bar tabs being stored in jam tins behind the bar. It was also popular hangout for notorious criminal Arthur ‘Neddy’ Smith and corrupt cop Roger Rogerson during the 1970s and 1980s.
