The Kia Forum is a multi-purpose arena located in Inglewood, a southwestern city of Los Angeles. The forum opened in 1967 featuring a design that was groundbreaking for time. The arena is better known simply as the Forum or as the fabulous forum but has also been known The Great Western Forum for time during its long history. Along with Madison Square Garden, the forum is known as one of the most famous arenas in the world.
According to architect Charles Luckman, the now iconic exterior design of the Forum was intended to resemble the general design of most Roman coliseums. The unique design cleverly integrated all major support columns into the venues exterior design. A revolutionary design choice which allowed for open concourse areas and seating bowl with no unobstructed seats.
The arena was the long-time home of the Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Kings before both teams moved to the then Staples Centre in 1999. The Lakers, in particular, experienced great success playing at the Forum hosting many of the team’s greatest players and witnessing many of the team’s championships especially those during the famed Showtime era of the 1980s.
Apart from sports, the Forum is also a poplar concert venue having hosted the biggest names in music and entertainment over its long history. All major musicians from the 60s, 70s and 80s played shows at the famous venue with many live albums and videos recorded there. By the 90s the Forum’s reputation had grown becoming one of the must play venues for musicians and must visit venues for fans.
The Kia Forum is located in Inglewood, approximately 20km from downtown Los Angeles and directly across from Hollywood Park and SoFi Stadium. The arena is located in the middle of large parking lot making it easy for those driving to the venue. A dedicated rideshare pickup location is located on site at lot H. You can also reach the venue via the LA Metro Bus network number 211/215 service alighting at either the Prairie/Manchester or Prairie/Kelso stops.
