Elephant Mountain is a popular hiking trail located in Taipei. The mountain’s name Xiangshan is derived from the shape of the mountain which is said to resemble the shape of an elephant.
The hiking trail is relatively short and easy taking approximately 30 minutes. Staircases are well constructed with several flat sections along the way for visitors to rest.
Once you reach the summit you’ll have arguably the best view in the city. With the landmark Taipai 101 tower at its centre, the entire city lays before you. Try and time your arrival at the summit to just before sunset in order to experience both day and night views of the city.
The beginning of the trail is located close to the MRT red line’s Xiangshan station on the city’s metro system.
