Treasure Island is casino and hotel resort located on the world famous Las Vegas strip. The casino opened in 1993 and has featured a pirate theme throughout its existence albeit at varying levels.
The idea for a pirate themed casino came about in the early 1990s when there was shift toward more family oriented experiences in Las Vegas.
The casino featured a heavy pirate theme throughout the resort during its early years that included giant skull and cross bones sign on the strip and a pirate village with two full sized pirate ships at the main entrance which included free, live pirate shows.
The rebranding of the casino as TI in the early 2000s was a strange choice and still looks has jarring as it would have been when it was first implemented. The rebranding was part of the shift in casino design in the 2000s where many casinos abandoned or stripped back their theme. Casinos have been worse off with this new trend where casinos have become characterless and indistinguishable from each other.
The casino’s main attraction is the Cirque du Soleil show Mystére, the company’s longest continuously running show having first opened at the property in 1993.
The hotel portion of Treasure Island features 2,885 rooms spread across the casinos 36 story, Y shaped tower. The casino also features a small pool area with private cabanas, a spa and arcade.
Treasure Island also features a 47,927 sq ft casino that features all the classic and modern table games with extensive range of slot machines and video poker.
