Bar Review: Grand Ole Opry, Seoul

The Grand Ole Opry is a bar located in Itaewon, a commercial district in Seoul. The bar is American and country themed dive bar that caters to foreigners.

Opened in 1975, the bar catered mostly to Korean War Veterans and military personal stationed in the area. These days the crowd is more diverse drawing an eclectic mix of clientele. The bar is owned and run by Mama Kim, an elderly yet energetic Korean lady who seemingly does everything at the bar.

The bar doesn’t appear to have changed since the 70s and that’s a good thing. Part of the bars well worn aesthetic are u.s. and Korean bank notes that cover the walls and hang from the bar. Each note has been signed by a previous visitor and tells a story of diverse people that have spent a night at the Grand Ole Opry.
