Pizzeria Uno is a famous pizza restaurant located in Chicago. The restaurant has been operating since 1943 and is recognised as the birthplace of the Chicago Deep Dish Pizza.

The original location was first opened by Ike Sewell in the River North neighborhood of Chicago. Due to the success of the restaurant, a second pizzeria called Pizzeria Due was opened one block away from the original location in 1955. The restaurant would expand further in the 1970s franchising the Uno Pizza concept across locations in the United States and at select locations around the world.

As the original Uno Pizza location, Pizzeria Uno stays true to its roots. The restaurant, at the corner of Wabash and Ohio, looks just like you would expect a 1940s era pizzeria in Chicago to look like. The interior of the restaurant is cozy, featuring a low-lying tin ceiling, a well-stocked bar and plenty of old timey photos of Chicago hung across its walls.

If visiting Chicago, and Pizzeria Uno, for the first time there’s really only one thing you should be ordering. The Chicago Deep Dish Pizza is unique and unlike any pizza you would have tried before. Definitely more pie than pizza, the deep dish features a crispy crust filled with two thick layers of cheese and tomato sauce, a simple but delicious spin on the humble pizza.
