The Olympiastadion is a historic multipurpose sports stadium located in Berlin, Germany. The stadium has been one of Germany’s main sporting venues since opening in 1936 and is often considered to be the country’s national stadium. 

The stadium was originally built in preparation for the 1936 Olympic Games opening with a capacity of 100,000. At these Olympics, the stadium would feature as part of the first televised Olympic Games and as the finale of the first ever Olympic torch relay. 

Apart from hosting the 1936 olympics, the stadium hosted matches at the 1974 and 2006 fifa World Cup where it hosted the final between France and Italy. The stadium is also set to host the final of the upcoming Euro 2024 football tournament.

In the early 2000s the stadium underwent significant renovations. An impressive transparent roof was carefully added which now covers all spectators. The lower seating ring was also remodelled to create a more intimate atmosphere bringing the stadiums capacity to 74,475 currently the third largest in Germany.

The stadium currently serves as the home ground of German club team Hertha Berlin as well as hosting most of the German national team matches. The stadium also regularly hosts major athletics events and is a popular concert venue.

The Olympiastadion is easily reached from anywhere in Berlin using either the S-Bahn or U-Bahn. Both trains stop at different stations, Olympia-Stadion (U-Bahn) and Olympiastadion (S-Bahn) both of which are within walking distance of the stadium.
