Hotel Review: Safari Inn, Los Angeles

The Safari Inn is a famous hotel located in Burbank, a city northwest of downtown Los Angeles, California. Opened in 1955, the hotel has become an icon, due in no small part to its signature neon sign that has been illuminating Olive Avenue for almost 70 years.

The exterior and public areas of the hotel is classic midcentury Los Angeles. All the usual aspects of this classic style are present with a safari theme blended in for good measure. You’ll find animal print furnishing in the lobby area and a Zulu-style shield motif incorporated across all the hotel’s railings.

Unfortunately, the safari theme doesn’t continue once you enter your room. Although the room we stayed in was modern, well appointed, clean and spacious, it would have been great to see some subtle nods to the hotel’s unique aesthetic incorporated into its interiors.

The Safari Inn is an excellent choice for those wishing to explore this part of Los Angeles. With a complimentary shuttle service included in your stay, guests will find it easy to reach some of the area’s best attractions and amenities, including Universal Studios Hollywood, the Warner Bros. Studio Tour and Hollywood Burbank Airport.

Due to its close proximity to many of the headquarters of some of the biggest films studios in Hollywood, the hotel has featured in a number of films and television series. True Romance, Apollo 13, Monk, T.J. Hooker, Prison Break and Desperate Housewives have all used the hotel as a filming location.
