Stadium Guide: Estadio Campeón del Siglo, Montevideo

Estadio Campeón del Siglo is a football stadium located in Montevideo, Uruguay. The stadium accommodates 40,000 spectators and is the home ground of Uruguayan football club Peñarol.

The stadium opened in 2016 after Peñarol had played at the historic Estadio Centenario for almost 100 years. The stadium takes its name from the title that was awarded to Peñarol by the IFFHS as the best South American club of the 20th century.

The stadium features a modest layout with four stands of a similar design with the main seated stand, named after the first club president Frank Henderson, also featuring an indoor VIP section.

If you arrive to the stadium early, be sure to check out the vintage locomotive located to left of the main entrance that represents the club’s origin as club started by railway workers. The path leading to the stadium’s main entrance features several plaques dedicated to former Peñarol players, a great way to learn a about the club’s history before heading into the stadium.

When heading to the stadium from Montevideo we recommended taking a taxi or Uber. Returning to Montevideo after the game is a bit more complicated so we recommended organising your return transportation before heading to the stadium.
